Remembering the Heroes of 9/11

It’s been 13 years today since the Twin Towers in New York City crumbled to the ground and forever changed our way of life. As we commemorate 9/11, we, at Iron Cactus, salute our own brave firefighters.

Iron Cactus Firefighting Crew

Iron Cactus Firefighting Crew

Last Sunday, we sponsored a team of firefighters, who honor their fallen brethren by climbing the equivalent of 110-stories at a building in downtown Austin. What is known as the Memorial Stair Climb for Texas Firewalkers, our team and the rest of the firefighters who participated, carried their full firefighting gear walking up 110-stories. They do this Memorial Stair Climb every year to honor the 343 brave heroes of the FDNY. Say thank you and hug a firefighter today. Never Forget!

Chef Chozet Shows You How to Mexify Your Leftover Thanksgiving Turkey Iron Cactus Style

Mexify Your Leftover Thanksgiving Turkey

It’s been days after Thanksgiving and you’re still serving that Thanksgiving Turkey to your family just because you don’t want it to go to waste. But the real reason is you spent hours slaving away prepping and cooking that delicious Turkey so why shouldn’t it be served on more than one occasion.

If you’re tired of turning your leftover Thanksgiving Turkey into soup, salad, wraps, sandwiches, or just tired of microwaving that same Turkey for your family, then this blog post will make sure your family continues to thank you even after Thanksgiving.

Iron Cactus Executive Chef, Chozet (pronounced Sho-zay), and yes, he goes by one name like Prince or Oprah, recently appeared on Good Day Austin to showcase how to Mexify Iron Cactus style leftover Turkey. He reinvented our Stacked Pork Enchiladas by creating Stacked Turkey Enchiladas. Follow the recipe below to turn your leftover Thanksgiving Turkey into a dressed-up Mexican dish.

Iron Cactus Stacked Turkey Enchiladas recipe by Chef Jaime Chozet

5 oz. prepped Turkey Meat (pulled)
1.5 oz. Green chiles
1 oz. cooked Rajas
3 oz. shredded Monterrey cheese
4 oz. prepped Verde sauce
3 ea. oiled Corn tortillas
0.25 oz. chopped Cilantro
1 ea. whole Egg
4 oz. prepped Mexican Rice
6 oz. prepped Choice of Beans

Cooking Instructions:

– Sauté rajas and green chiles with the shredded turkey in a small amount of oil.

– Once hot, add 2 oz. of the verde sauce and stir in the Monterrey cheese. Once the cheese is melted, stack the enchiladas in this order: one red corn tortilla on the plate and put half of the turkey mixture on top, then top with the second tortilla.

– Then spread the remaining mixture on top of that tortilla and top with the third tortilla. Ladle the remaining 2 oz. of verde sauce on the enchilada stack and sprinkle 1 oz. of Monterrey cheese on top.

– Broil until the cheese is melted.

– Cook the egg over easy and place on top of the finished enchilada.

– Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve with choice of beans and rice mold.

Iron Cactus Mexican Grill & Margarita Bar Debuts Own Tequila at Its Annual Tequila Tour on September 26th at the North Austin location

AUSTIN, TX, September 24, 2013 – Iron Cactus Mexican Grill & Margarita Bar debuts its own tequila at its annual Tequila Tour on September 26th at the North Austin location at 10001 Stonelake Blvd. Tequila Tour attendees will have a chance to sample the double barrel reposado created by Herradura specifically for Iron Cactus.

Since opening its first location on the corner of Trinity St. and 6th St. in downtown Austin, Iron Cactus has been on a mission to educate guests on the various qualities and types of tequila available. For 16 consecutive years, it has hosted the Tequila Tour where several new and popular tequila manufacturers come together under one roof to let guests sample a variety of tequilas.

“We’ve always been pioneers in making tequila a drink that people can enjoy on a daily basis much like wine or beer,” said Gary Manley, General Partner at Iron Cactus. “From introducing the first tequila on tap to bringing more than 100 different tequila brands at our restaurants to launching our own tequila brand, we’ve come a long way in growing the popularity of such a versatile beverage.”

Manley and the Iron Cactus team worked closely with Herradura in Guadalajara, Mexico, to ensure that the quality and taste of the Iron Cactus-branded tequila is unique. The Iron Cactus tequila is available at all Iron Cactus locations.

Guests who are interested in attending the Tequila Tour can purchase tickets in advance at the Austin locations of Iron Cactus or by visiting https://ictequilatour2013.eventbrite.com. Gluten-Free Never Tasted So Good!

Gluten-free is not just a diet craze.

According to the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness, about 1% of the U.S. population has celiac disease. For these individuals, staying gluten-free is a matter of life and death.

The rest of the population who are going on a gluten-free diet are doing so because they may be gluten sensitive or simply want to cut the amount of gluten foods they eat. Removing gluten from one’s diet may benefit some more than others.

In a recent article in CNN.com by Dr. Arthur Agatson, author of The South Beach Diet Gluten Solution, he declares that “as a society, we are in a state of ‘gluten overload,’ and millions of people of all ages and all walks of life are suffering as a result of a condition that was recognized only a few years ago, called gluten sensitivity.” [To view the complete article, please click here.]

One common complaint by many who have decided to try being gluten-free is the lack of taste in gluten-free dishes. At Iron Cactus, its gluten-free menu includes dishes that even the non-gluten-free guest would find delicious.

“We want to ensure that our gluten-free guests are able to experience the same tasty dishes that we create for our non-gluten-free guests, “said Iron Cactus Executive Chef Jaime Chozet.  “Our gluten-free menu includes appetizers, entrées and desserts.”

The stacked pork enchiladas is one of the many gluten-free menu items at Iron Cactus.

Iron Cactus has been serving gluten-free dishes since 2008, years before other restaurants started to offer it.

So if you’re gluten-free, be sure to check out our gluten-free menu the next time you visit Iron Cactus.

Iron Cactus Mexican Grill & Margarita Bar Declares Salsa Shortage in Texas; Expected to Run Out on April 1st

Austin, TX, March 28, 2013 – Iron Cactus Mexican Grill & Margarita Bar today announced that due to the unusually cold weather this year, there has been a significant shortfall of high-quality, vine-riped tomatoes, which the restaurant uses to create its award-winning salsas made fresh daily. The famous Tex-Mex dining establishment predicts that its two famous salsas, the warm-roasted and cold salsa, will run out by April 1st.

“We ask guests to visit our five locations on or before April 1st while we have salsas available,” stated Gary Manley, General Partner at Iron Cactus. “We will continue to offer our unlimited chips and salsas free of charge even as we face this crisis,” added Manley with conviction.

Iron Cactus, which has five locations in Texas including three in the Austin-area (6th St. in downtown Austin, North Austin and Hill Country Galleria), downtown Dallas and San Antonio Riverwalk, are all affected by the salsa shortage. Iron Cactus’ salsas are made daily with the freshest and finest ingredients. The restaurant will not compromise in its commitment to using only the best ingredients for its dishes, margaritas and desserts including its salsas.

“We will make it through this salsa shortage. We will know if the crisis is averted on April 2nd,” added Manley.
