Farewell Jimmy Kimmel! How to Make the Kimmelrita!

Now that Jimmy Kimmel fever is over and Austinites are recovering from his visit during SXSW. We wanted to share with you as a way to keep Jimmy Kimmel’s spirit (no pun intended) alive how to make the Kimmelrita. But first, we want to thank Jimmy Kimmel for the shout out on Jimmy Kimmel Live. It’s our honor to name a margarita after you highlighted by George Clooney’s Casamigos Tequila and Independence Brewing Co.’s Stash IPA, just because you love beer!

Since the Kimmelrita was only available while Jimmy Kimmel was in Austin, our guests have asked how to make the popular margarita at home. You can click the video below to learn how to make the unique margarita the way Jesse, our head bartender, makes it. He recommends having a few Kimmelritas while watching Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Iron Cactus Celebrates Sweet Sixteen with 16-cent House Margaritas on September 16th

AUSTIN, TX, September 5, 2012 — Iron Cactus Mexican Grill and Margarita Bar is celebrating sixteen years of serving delicious Mexican dishes and award-winning margaritas by dropping the price of its famous house margaritas to 16 cents on September 16th, Mexico’s Independence Day. The 16-cent price for Iron Cactus’ house margaritas is limited to two per guest and will be available at all of its five locations in Austin, Dallas and San Antonio.

Iron Cactus opened its first location at the corner of 6th Street and Trinity Street in downtown Austin in 1996. Since then, Iron Cactus has grown to five locations by opening two additional locations in the Austin area (near the Arboretum and at the Hill Country Galleria), one in downtown Dallas and one at the famous Riverwalk in San Antonio. Iron Cactus margaritas have been recognized by noteworthy publications as one of the best in the nation.

“The entire Iron Cactus organization is grateful to all our guests who have supported us through the years,” said Gary Manley, General Partner at Iron Cactus. “This special price for our house margaritas is our way of saying thanks for their continued loyalty.”

Iron Cactus has also played an important role in revitalizing the East 6th Street neighborhood of downtown Austin since opening its original location. Additionally, Iron Cactus provides much-needed support to charitable organizations including Marbridge, Soldiers’ Angels, the American Widow Project, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Any Baby Can, among others. It hosts an annual charity golf tournament that has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for various nonprofit organizations.

“We will continue to celebrate our sweet sixteen this year with other events that our guest will love,” added Manley.

A Special Guest for a Special Cause

This past week, we had a very special guest at the Iron Cactus on Sixth Street. Maddie joined us on Wednesday afternoon on our outdoor patio for a margarita and chips. While that doesn’t sound terribly unusual, Maddie is actually a Yellow Labrador, and she was there to help create a great new TV commercial for our friends at the Austin Animal Center.

Austin Animal Center is trying to impress upon people the importance of tagging and microchipping their pets, so if animals get lost, they can be returned to their owners. The idea of the TV spot was to feature Maddie whimsically enjoying popular, iconic Austin locations, and finally being returned to her owner, thanks to her microchipping and tags. So Maddie spent a day getting a trim at Birds Barbershop, catching a movie at the Alamo Drafthouse, paddle-boarding on Lady Bird Lake, listening to a lively street musician on South Congress, and enjoying chips and an afternoon drink from her “margarita bowl” with us at the Iron Cactus. (Animal activists relax; Maddie’s marg was actually just water; although, the ones enjoyed by the creative team from MOSAK Advertising & Insights were very much the real thing and very much enjoyed!)

Maddie joined us for a couple of hours upstairs on the rooftop patio being served by Danielle. Besides working at the Iron Cactus, Danielle is an actress, and she smoothly delivered her lines and margaritas with the friendly service upon which we pride ourselves. Everyone else, from bartenders to managers, also contributed. As animal lovers, we are always happy to help out for a good cause, and the Austin Animal Center is certainly making life better for these animals, their owners and our fellow Austinites. The spot should be running soon and will be posted at AustinAnimalCenter.org.

Austin Animal Center recently opened their new location on the east side at 7201 Levander Loop, and you can have your pet tagged and microchipped there. It’s easy and painless. You’ll also be able to view the spot on the Austin Animal Center Facebook page, as well as our Facebook page. Look for the spot and we’ll look for you on our outdoor patio overlooking Sixth Street, at our North Austin location on Stonelake or at the Hill Country Galleria restaurant enjoying a tasty marg. As Maddie can attest, “it’s a great place to hang out.”
